How does Corvental-D work? What does Corvental-D do?
The active ingredient, theophylline is related to caffeine and theobromine which provide the stimulant effects in coffee and tea. However, theophylline has a large range of other effects in the body. The main useful effects come from the fact that it relaxes smooth muscle. This helps to open up airways, as well as open the blood vessels supplying the heart muscle. Breathing is easier and the heart muscle is better oxygenated. Blood flow through the kidneys is improved so helping to eliminate excess fluid build up in the body, which otherwise just gives the heart more work to do. Theophylline stimulates respiration too by acting on part of the brain, further improving oxygen supply. What are the Corvental-D side effects?
Most of the side effects come from the stimulant effect on the brain. Sometimes this is seen as restlessness and agitation, possibly associated with vomiting or diarrhoea. Other dogs may show sedation or reduced appetite, or increased thirst and urination. Occasionally seizures have been reported, and these are more likely to occur if other, stimulant medication is being given at the same time. Liver damage has been reported too. Generally as long as the recommended dose is not exceeded, no untoward effects are seen, so accurate dosing is required. Corvental-D tends to be used in dogs where breathing is becoming difficult, and the benefits usually far outweigh the concerns about possible side effects. If unwanted effects do occur, then and alternative form of treatment might be more appropriate.Where can I buy Corvental-D?
